Shall we dance? :D

What was the fastest piston-engined fighter in squadron service in WW II? By squadron service I mean in combat, not the developmental stage or prototypes.

Cheers!

Not in squadron service in Europe, anyways. And nope, not the fastest in operational history. To quote Alex Trebek, "try again!"

I was thinking P-51 too. How about the p-47?
I think the British had something but the name escapes me.

The P-51H was faster (487mph) but it never saw combat so the Focke-Wulf TA 152 could reach 472 mph and saw combat in April of 45. Oberfeldwebel Josef Keil of 10./JG 301 had 5 kills in the TA 152.

Right you are FMP!! The H model of the Mustang was never combat-serviced in Europe. but in Pacific and Korea. Special recce variants of the TA - 152 were given 100 octane fuel and could even match the H model's speed.

So if this is like our other trivia threads I guess it is my turn to ask.
The following is either going to be easy or hard depending on your other interests.

Who is mentioned in a song from yearly 90's that talks about a piece of military head gear?

I didn't think of that on and almost gave it to you but that is from the mid 80's. My question asks for early 90's (eventhough I cant spell and put yearly).

Okay,

It has been a while since I asked a question so I will ask a crazy one. This is a World War 2 question, I'm sure Steve would have got it if he still hung out on these forums. Here it is:

What do James Bond, Saruman and Sherlock Holmes have to do with this...

If by Pacific and not Europe then Sarnas actually found the correct answer.  Your question stated WWII not European theatre.  The Pacific was part of the WWII as much as we ignore it in FoW.  Now if you are saying the H version never saw combat in WWII but was in the Pacific AFTER WWII than FMP was correct.  WWII means WORLD War not European war.

Christopher Lee acted Characters in all these movies (Golden Gun for JB).  He also fought in the WWII.

If this is right then Yeah for Wiki.

As far as I have read, the H was in the Pacific during WWII but did not see any combat until Korea.

Thanks for clarifying - my question was awkward - I should have specified the ETO

Interesting note; the H model never was used much in Korea either excepting photo recon and ground attack. It was somewhat slow by then. Interesting note # 2 - Kurt Tank, the designer of the TA - 152 was intercepted in the fall of 1944 by two P - 51D's while flying a prototype TA - 152 and was able to outrun them easily without even using the NoS system.  Yep - it boosted on nitrous oxide!!!

Indeed he did fight in WW2, and he was Saruman. That is one part of the answer, you need two more. I actually did not know he was in any Sherlock Holmes but it is not surprising.

Christopher Lee was in the SOE which I think was refered to as the "Barker street iregulars" and doesn't that have something to do with Sherlock Holmes. I havn't read Sherlock Holmes in a long time.
Ian Flemming was also in the intelegence department of the Royal navy.

Well, as soon as someone figures out what the Barker Street Irregulars have to do with Sherlock Holmes we have an answer:)
