Details

Plasticard (also known as sheet styrene) is a sheet of 0.02" thick plastic with an embossed 3 dimensional texture on one side. Textures come in a variety of scales for use with a range of miniature gaming, railroading, or dollhouse projects. Sheets are easy to cut with a hobby knife. After gluing, Plasticard can be painted and drybrushed to create a very realistic finish.

Instructions

Prebuild your building with a sturdy material like foamcore, thick card, or plain white plasticard of about 0.06" thickness.
1. Mark with a pencil the desired shape for your building on the textured plasticard.
2. Using a hard edge (such as a steel ruler), cut with a hobby knife along the line. Do not push hard and do not worry about putting your knife all the way through the card.
3. Bend the plasticard along the line you cut. It will snap off wherever you cut.
4. Glue the plasticard to your building structure. White and wood glue will work, but it takes a while for the glue to hold. Contact cement such as Flash Glue works very well. You can also use two sided tape sheets like MBS Stick’Em to instantly attach the plasticard without waiting for any drying time.
5. Prime the plasticard black with any form of spray paint.
6. Apply a base coat of acrylic paint over the primed color. For smaller projects, use Games Workshop Citadel Color line of paint. For large projects, use Home Depot’s matt house paint.
7. Drybrush progressively lighter shades of color over top the texture of the plasticard. This will give a striking realistic look to it.
